I tried Snes9x with nothing else on (I even turned off explorer.exe), but I get the same amount of latency. I think I have the same classic controller adapter, and it works fine. Try having nothing open but SNES9X? You might need more RAM(which you shouldn't, since the SNES shouldn't be hard to emulate.) It could also be your controller's wire wearing out. I did the same test in ZMZ, ZSNES, and RetroArch (With the Snes9x core), and they all get two frames of lag, which I've been okay with. The strange thing is how much a single frame can affect my own perception. This was with vsync off, so I'm not sure what could be causing Snes9x to lag behind. Add 5 ms of latency from my monitor, so that's 55.1 ms total. One frame at 60 frames per second is 16.7 ms, so three frames of latency at 60 frames per second should be 50.1 ms of latency. Consistently, my results were three frames of no action until the fourth frame, where Mario finally begins his jump. My very unscientific method of recording it was pressing the jump button in Super Mario World, pausing the emulation, and then advancing one frame at a time. I measured roughly 3 frames of input lag in Snes9x 1.53. Is it because their menus are coded in x86 assembly? Correct me if I'm wrong about that. Interestingly, ZSNES in fullscreen has the lowest latency, followed by ZMZ in fullscreen. Apparently, his findings show that Higan has more latency than Snes9x, which isn't the case in my experience. The author says that his testing wasn't 100% reliable, but some latency trends can be seen. I found a blog post about a guy measuring SNES emulator latency. I would like to correct this so that I can record AVIs in Snes9x. I don't have a way to accurately measure the response time, but all I know is that Snes9x is the only emulator where I can actually "feel" the latency. Of all the emulators that I mainly use (Snes9x 1.53, Higan 0.92 Balanced, ZMZ 1.09 with Snes9x core, ZSNES 1.51), It feels like Snes9x 1.53 is by far the one with the most latency. The listed response time for my old 60hz LCD monitor is 5ms, and I use either a USB Mayflash Classic Controller Pro adapter or a USB keyboard as my controller, both of which probably introduce some latency, too.ĭoes anyone else get noticeable input lag in Snes9x 1.53?
